Death Becomes Her (Lena x Rio) Pt 2

Rio reappears at the Tower when Kara gently but urgently delivers Lena's body to a stasis pod. Her friend's heart still beats, but only barely. Even that is clouded to nothing by the stasis field that envelops Lena.

"Her spirit is already gone," Rio says, neither cruel nor kind. "You simply delay the decay of her body. Would Lena want this?"

"She wouldn't want to be DEAD!" Kara barks, her anger taking over now that Lena is safe. She whirls on Rio. "How could-- she trusted you! She loved you! And you-- you--"

At that, Rio looks away, a hint of *something* coloring her cheeks. Her face no longer looks like death. She simply looks like Rio, their friend-- like Rio, Lena's partner.

"Lena--" Rio's voice cracks. "I have known Lena her whole life. My affection for her was genuine. I admired her-- her capacity to connect with life, for all that I was never far from her."

"And yet you still murdered her."

"I am not the catalyst. For most, I am simply the destination. For only a select few am I the means."

Kara scowls. "And how do you decide?"

"I *don't*," Rio reiterates, losing some of her gravitas in her frustration.

"Then how can you tell?" Kara all but stamps her foot, struggling to understand. This isn't right. It can't be. Lena had finally shed the weight of her family's burdens, started to live for herself, to love the world and her place within, embracing her magic and science both in equal measure.

This can't be the end. Not for Lena.

"Magic," Rio delivers simply. "The world is made of it, and even those unaware of its existance are swayed by it. Nature decides when the time has come."

Kara's mind races. As much as it sounds like a bullshit answer, from her time with Lena she knows that even the most outlandish claims can carry truth.

She also knows that magic is not infallible.

"Magic can be manipulated," Kara states her thoughts aloud.

Rio glares at her. "I cannot undo what has been done."

"No, I mean--" Kara huffs, struggling to find the words. "If someone wanted Lena dead, could they have twisted the flow of magic? Could they have drawn you to her?"

A scoff answers her. "Kara--"

"Is. It. Possible?" Kara bites out the word, fighting every fiber of her being not to lash out, to not fry Rio on the spot in a fit of rage.

She watches Rio hesitate, her brow furrowing with thought as she considers the possibility presented her.

"Life and death is the source of all magic, the oldest magic in the universe. To manipulate such energies would take incalculable ability."

Kara seizes the opportunity. "And if Lena's death weren't natural... if you suspected the flow of life and death had been tampered with... there has to be someone or something you know capable of such power."

Rio's gaze snaps to Kara, and in that single stare Kara sees the answer. There is someone, and Rio knows who it may be. And the alarm in Death's gaze makes Kara's heart lurch.

"Who?" she asks.

Rio looks her dead in the eye.

"Mephisto."

stormlight au number 35 (help me i'm lost in the sauce)

Jasnah, Dalinar, and Renarin (surviving Kholin Radiants) travel from End of World all the way to right after Gavilar's death.

Vengeance pact still happens, but plays out very differently. We don't need absolutely every man in the kingdom to join the army, alright Elhokar? And we're making sure Dalinar is there to accept their surrender, actually win in reasonable time frame and 'conquer' them (no Alethi want to live out there anyway, and as long as they send gemhearts in tribute we won't enslave them. actually elhokar, your sister wanted to talk to you about slavery—).

Honestly, just an excuse for:

A) Adolin to have a breakdown that his entire family has been replaced by voidbringers, before eventually accepting with relief that they're still his family, they've just become voidbringers, but its ok because he loves them and will protect their increasingly heretical actions with his life. Hugs his glowing red and green eyed little brother a lot.

Adolin: do I — should I also learn to read?

Jasnah: do you want to?

Adolin: not really, no.

Renarin: to be honest, it's probably for the best if you just focus on being, well, a good Vorin Alethi. One of us probably should be, if we don't have a desolation as a distraction.

Adolin: ok! sure! I can do that. Also thought id mention that if possible, I would personally appreciate *not* having a desolation.

Jasnah: it may prove necessary.

Adolin: I know, i know. Just thought I'd put my feelings out there.

B) Kholin family to have way too strong a reaction to this random darkeyed surgeon in training when they visit Kharbranth, scaring the absolute shit out of said darkeyed surgeon. Adolin walks into a wall when he sees Kaladin. He doesn't even know about the Radiant thing, it's just that

C) Kaladin dresses really hot in this au. Ok. I lied. this is actually the main reason for this au. It — there's a whole chain of events. I – don't look at me like that. The character development works, alright?

A lot of it boils down to distracting people from groping the female medical trainees.

He realizes that breathing in a certain way, while it makes you focus better and move faster, it also makes you more...present somehow? people pay attention to you, for better or worse. Some of the ladies teach him that there are different ways to channel people's focus on you, if they're looking anyway.

And apparently, for the first few years Kharbranth medical students, light and dark eyed alike, have basically no protections from wealthy patients or Lighteyed chief's of staff who are a bit too interested in teaching you to use your safehand, and its not like Kaladin can challenge them to a duel - he doesnt know how to fight, and it would get him and the person hes trying to protect kicked out of the program. So much for honorable lighteyes being real.

But I mean. If wearing some eyeliner, and a gemstone in your hair, if taking your right glove off first after an exam, conspicuously leaving the left on while talking, if bending over to pick his clipboard up in a certain way... if it gets people to not focus on his friends...

...one could probably get pretty angsty with this concept, ngl.

The Stormlight understanding and oaths come in time. There might also be some Radiant Disguise Superhero hijinks, havent fully decided but it's not really a major stretch from canon to say that Kharbranth struggles with violent crime. Also Kaladin gets to learn about institutional racism in school. It's great. I have a lot of Kaladin thoughts but so does everyone in this au so its ok.

Kholins visit Kharbranth:

Jasnah: you've been moping for days. Is your new fixation of the week not responding to your advances?

Adolin: I don't want to talk about it

Dalinar: son, you've clearly been in a mood—

Adolin: look, I'm not — the individual is not suitable for my station, alright? I'm not courting someone I could never actually marry, because that would be stupid.

Jasnah: while it would complicate matters, you know your brother and I have plans to alter the alethi codes around eye color, considering they're clearly a crude derivative of radiant mythologization

It was those moments just before Tim left that stuck out in his mind the most. Draping the homemade quilt over Kon and Jane. Gently brushing the little girl’s wild, dark curls back from her face. Pressing a soft kiss to Kon’s forehead. The warmth that had burned in his chest as he just stood there for a beat and looked at them, peaceful for the first time in weeks. He imagined a world maybe not so far away where the two fell asleep like that on a different couch in a cozy living room, worn out from a happy day spent at the beach or the park or anywhere else they found joy and excitement. Where Tim was right there with them, helping to tuck the little girl safely between himself and Kon where no one could hurt her. - Elle tries to keep up the ruse of being a Kryptonian while trying to figure out a way back to her Grave with mixed results. People keep asking her questions she can't answer, Tim and Kon are way too nice to keep lying to and the world seems to have become an ectoplasmic wasteland. With her Core acting strangely and something dangerous looming on the horizon, Elle's quickly running out of time. It'll all be okay though, once she gets back to Amity Park and find Danny. She just has to get back.

been weighing the mid-season Starscraper placement + confirmation that we only learn more about Kpp'Ar's arm in S7 and...

I feel like the second fact is our biggest clue that Kpp'Ar is only being released from the coin late s6 / early s7. Which means that if depending on where his coin is (the castle or the Starscraper) there's a couple of options.

If he is at the castle, it means if Viren is alive his plans (?) to free Kpp'Ar are derailed until S7 / he more likely doesn't make it back because he runs into Soren or something, and then plot and Claudia kicks in.

If he's at the Starscraper... it could just be that there's so much craziness going on post-release, especially if Callum gets possessed, that there's no time / no one with the wherewithal to ask for more details about his arm. Which would make sense!

However if I had go with my gut for this (+ more reasons)... I think it's looking likelier and likelier, maybe, that at the very least there's an Attempt to free the Moon fam this season, and it's unsuccessful, because it's Mostly There to be the Risk that Callum takes to get possessed and subsequently free Aaravos
